Modern mix engineering for rock and alternative artists
Cedar Hill Studios is the mixing home of Michael McCarthy — a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and mixing engineer with decades of experience across genres. After cutting his teeth as a working engineer at Range Recording Studios, Michael developed a strong foundation in professional tracking, editing, and mixing while collaborating with experienced engineers and diverse artists. He brings a musician's ear and an engineer's precision to every mix, focusing on dynamics, arrangement, and emotional impact.
With the release of his most recent album (Grand Tortoise's All in Good Time), he's turned his attention to helping other local artists with mixing, production, or just the final push to getting their songs over the finish line.
These are samples of my mixing work. All mixes were performed at Cedar Hill Studios, are not mastered, and have not been brought up to modern day loudness standards. Expect volume differences between the RAW and FINISHED tracks.
Curious what your track could sound like with a professional mix? Upload your multi-tracks and I'll create a short teaser mix so you can hear the direction before committing to a full project. There's no pressure — it's simply a way for you to hear how your song could come together.
Your tracks are kept private and are only used for the purpose of evaluating or mixing your project.Upload tracks

"This has been the recording experience we have always wanted... that we have earned and deserve. Whatever happens with the record from here on out, I know it was worth it all. All the guys at Range, but especially our Producer/engineer Mike McCarthy, have been just awesome." - Kevin McQuiston, Reburb
